Jakarta will become UC browser’s Southeast Asian headquarters. According to U.S. web traffic tracker site StatCounter, UC browser had 40.03% of desktop market share in Indonesia as of August and 28.51% of mobile-based market share according to data from March.

It is reported UC browser has a team on the ground in Indonesia promoting the browser to local content providers.

Zhong Wei, UC Web Indonesia General Manager told Tencent Tech that mobile Internet is growing rapidly in Indonesia and UC browser hopes to work with more Internet companies to expand the Indonesian market.

UC browser, which is owned by Alibaba, has been expanding to overseas markets since 2009. The browser is available in 11 languages include English, Hindi, Bahasa, Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian and Persian.

PCOnline.com.cn reported UC browser has the world’s largest amount of mobile browser users, including 500 million global users, of which 150 million are outside China.

The report said UC browser is one of the first few Chinese Internet companies to expand overseas. As of March, UC browser continues to be the top mobile browser in several countries, having held that position in China for several years, in India for two years in a row and now also in Indonesia.

Back in January, UC browser struck a deal with Facebook: the UC browser overseas edition would integrate Facebook real-time notifications in the browser. This is the first time Facebook has implemented real-time notifications besides in its native application.
