Huawei launched its “Fertile Land Project” at its first Huawei Developer Conference in Shenzhen on Monday with a one-billion USD investment plan to support developer partners.
The project includes five main parts:
- an Innovation Fund — providing financial support to developers;
- Development Support — offering an open platform and remote lab;
- Huawei Certification — certifies developer partners and solution plans;
- Talent Training — provides training in research, development, sales and delivery;
- a Sales Fund — offers marketing and sales incentives for developers.
Huawei also announced it’ll build up its ecosystem Software Development Kit (eSDK), emphasizing the lab as a service on the cloud. Huawei will stress several key components in its eSDK: end-to-end development resource acquisition, agile development procedures and tools and dedicated 24/7 expert online support, with a social network for developers.
Huawei’s eSDK was first launched at Germany’s CeBIT, the world’s biggest ICT conference, in May. As an online development platform, eSDK can reduce the costs of research and development infrastructure for developers by sharing access to Huawei’s ICT infrastructure.
“Huawei’s advantage lies in developing platform-type products,” Ding Yun, Huawei’s Product Line President, said at the conference.
“For example, Huawei’s not capable of building up a personal credit system for our bank clients. But we can offer ICT infrastructure to our clients in various fields including finance, energy and transport. If we don’t build up an open platform, we can’t fulfill requests from our clients.”
It’s reported that Huawei has finished compatibility tests with 80% of mainstream company operating systems and app developers and has constructed seven open labs in China, Germany, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Huawei’s plan is to train 10,000 Huawei-certified cloud computing engineers over the next three years.
Alibaba also launched its own YunOS open platform at its computing conference last week.
