What can you make out of paper? For me, successfully making a paper sailboat is enough to boost my self-esteem.
But this Chinese dude Sun Weijie managed to design and build a BMW i8 out of paper all by himself.
You may think, “Nah. I could do that.”
Then what about this?
Yup! The BMW i8 is actually a transformer!
It took Sun 520 days to build this transformer from scratch.
And guess what material he chose? Cigarette boxes!
First he drew the whole thing out.
Then he built a model on the computer.
He made all the components one by one.
There you go!That’s the front.
The details inside.
Of course, the doors can be opened.
And continue….
You get a transformer! Welcome the Cybertron!
And there’s more: the components on its back can be transformed separately into a motorcycle.
It’s also armed with all kinds of secret weapons.
He even designed it to hold a small toy man.
Even the fingers can move!
“Hey buddy, it’s a deal!”
“Ready for the Cybertron?”
Who made this?
The creator Sun Weijie is a car model enthusiast. He has been making car models for 20 years and has been publishing his work online since the late 2000s.
Here are some other cars he’s built:
How did he make it?
It took Sun 520 days to build the entire transformer out of over a thousand components. And he spent about seven to eight hours per day on it.
Here’s the video of how he made the whole model from scratch.
Enjoy!
