Uber China announced a new “Uber Electric” project for its car-hailing service in 13 cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu. Passengers and electric car owners choosing to add or request this service, are promised bonuses, news website Ifeng.com reported on Monday.

Uber Beijing and Shanghai also announced Uber would award Uber electric vehicle drivers registered for their Carpooling service, with an additional bonus, to encourage citizens to buy new energy automobiles.

Uber claims 30% of the cars registered in Uber Shanghai are EVs. EV brands available on the platform include Tesla, BAIC BJEV and Brilliance-BMW. Uber says that other newer EVs will become available on the platform in the future.

Uber is currently facing challenges in China. Last Friday, dozens of Uber Official Wechat accounts were reported to have been blocked.
