Market research firm International Data Corporation (IDC) predicts Google’s Android operating system will take up 82.6% of mobile market share globally in 2019 leaving Apple’s iOS with 14.1%.
IDC also predicts Android will achieve 81.2% of mobile market share globally by the end of 2015 with iOS left with 15.8%. Since there are many Android-based OEMs (original equipment manufacturers), Google’s mobile platform still leads the market.
IDC reports global shipments of Android-based OEMs this year have reached 1.16 billion smartphones. This number will grow to about 1.54 billion smartphones in 2019. At the same time, IDC predicts global shipments of iPhones to increase from 226 million to 263.4 million in four years.
