Taxi drivers gathered outside Didi Kuaidi headquarters in Beijing on Tuesday to protest against the ride-hailing leader, according to Sohu news portal.
Police were on the sidelines during the incident. Taxi drivers told reporters that Didi had affected their livelihoods because the ride-hailing company has encouraged private-car owners to operate as drivers.
Didi is in hot water right now. Photos of about 100 taxi drivers blocking and smashing the cars of Didi private-car drivers in east China’s Qingdao spread on China’s largest social media Weibo on Tuesday, NetEase reported.
It was reported on Monday Didi Kuaidi was holding a marketing event on zero cost for carpooling. Didi Kuaidi had to cancel the event due to an angry mob and a commitment to ensure the safety of private car-hailing drivers.
Photos of the incident have surfaced not only on Weibo but also on WeChat Moments.
Competition among car-hailing companies is getting fierce. They take all means to compete with each other. On Monday China’s largest social network WeChat confirmed it had cleared 136 Didi Official Accounts and 168 Uber Official Accounts due to marketing ‘violations’.
