Huawei announced on Tuesday that its smartphone shipments this year have surpassed 100 million, which means the accomplishing of a goal set at the beginning of 2015, reports NetEase Tech.

In 2014, Huawei’s sales totalled USD 12.2 billion including 138 million terminal products, and 75 million smartphones.

With the promising landscape of smartphone sales, Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei’s Consumer Business Group, pledged Huawei would complete the goal of selling 100 million smartphones in 2015, raising the market share of high-end smartphones from 2014’s 18% to 30% and income of overseas markets from 52% to 60%.

Huawei completed its sales target at the end of May way ahead of schedule. Today’s ceremony celebrates the 100 millionth smartphone sold and officially announces the completion of the 2015 goal.

Huawei claims shipments of smartphones have increased 30 times over five years, soaring from three million shipments in 2014 to 100 million in 2015. Smartphone shipments in the third quarter 2015 totalled 26.5 million, taking Huawei to third place globally with 7.5% market share behind Samsung and Apple, according to an IDC report.

In addition to total sales volume, Huawei also keeps its feet in the mid-high-end smartphone market.

According to official data from Huawei, the market share of its mid-to-high range smartphones has risen to 33% with a series of new products in this price range being released, including the Huawei Honor 7, Ascend P8 and Mate 8.

In the Western European market, the price range for high-end smartphones ranges from EUR 400 to 500 surpassing 60% of the total market. Huawei’s latest “Mate 8” smartphone released in November is a competitive flagship product targeting the international high-end smartphone market.

He Gang, President of Huawei’s Mobile Phone Product Line, says that huge investments of up to 190 billion in R&D have contributed to the achievement. “Among 76,687 patent applications made in total, there are 18,000 applications related to terminals, laying the foundation for independent development,” added He.
