Taobao University held a press conference in Hangzhou on Tuesday to celebrate the anniversary of its e-commerce classes for county-level officials, SinaTech reports.

The CEO of Alibaba Group, Zhang Yong, announced that Taobao have built more than 10,000 village service stations, in more than 20 provinces across China.

Zhang Yong said that villagization, globalization and big data cloud computing, reign supreme as the three core strategies for Alibaba’s future, with villagization the most crucial for development. While there are hundreds of thousands of villages in China, 10,000 is just the beginning he said.

Alibaba’s strategy for rural expansion started in October 2014. The company plans to invest RMB 10 billion within 3-5 years to establish 1000 county-level stations and 100,000 stations at the village level.

According to Alibaba, they will start variously promoting activities in rural areas from January till the Chinese lunar new year in February.

The latest data shows that e-commerce classes for county level officials already cover 26 provinces, and 598 county regions, and up to 1572 officials have taken part in them. The 10 most active participants came from the regions of Guizhou, Shandong, and Xinjiang.
