Huawei releases new smartwatches for the ladies

Huawei unveiled two new smartwatches designed specifically for women on Wednesday. The model featuring synthetic gemstones is priced at RMB 3,888 (USD 599) while the one with natural gemstones is priced at RMB 4,888. The watches make up Huawei’s Xingyue series and are different from earlier female-oriented smartwatches released for the overseas-market at CES 2016 in Las Vegas.

The version of the Huawei Watch with synthetic gemstones goes on sale Friday on Chinese e-commerce platforms including Tmall and JD.com. It features 68 1.5mm Swarovski Zirconia crystals around its face and a smaller wristband made of alligator grain leather. The watch featuring natural gemstones will not be available to purchase until April.

The two smartwatches are both rose gold-plated and have cold-forged stainless steel bodies, as well as 10 new watch faces with “exclusive feminine designs”.

Their delicate appearance aside, the specs on the new women’s Huawei Watches are the same as the previous smartwatches Huawei has launched. Both versions use the Android Wear system and are equipped with 1.4-inch screens with a resolution of 400 x 400. They are compatible with Android 4.3 or later operating systems and overcome many technical difficulties in China.

Both versions have installed a built-in speaker that enables you to make and receive calls on your wrist and conduct voice navigation. Users can also reply to their Wechat and QQ messages via the speaker. In addition, the two watches also support Alipay’s offline payment service.

The watches are also highly waterproof, they can be worn while swimming, and both versions also feature an accurate fitness tracking system with enhanced heart rate monitor and sensors to track running, walking, and other activities.
