The Shanghai government has issued a series of guidelines to accelerate the development of new energy vehicles and the construction of charging infrastructure.
On Friday, the Shanghai Municipal Development and Reform Commission issued a statement to encourage local residents to purchase new energy vehicles (EVs) by imposing requirements for environmental protection and energy saving and offering subsidies for new energy vehicles. Last month, the Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission released a draft entitled “Special Planning for EV Charging Infrastructure Projects” to the public for advice.
To promote the development of new energy vehicles, Shanghai plans to build 103,000 charging piles next year and 211,000 by 2020, a ten-fold increase from 2015.
According to official data, Shanghai had more than 57,000 new energy vehicles from 2013 to 2015 and the number is estimated to reach 260,000 by 2020. In order to meet the need for EVs, Shanghai plans to launch 130 public charging stations with 28,000 by 2020.
Shanghai will put forward customized plans for different areas and make the proportion of public charging stations to EVs no less than 1:7. And the city will accelerate the process of planning and building charging stations. The local government will also invest in charging infrastructure to encourage more EVs.
Elsewhere in China, Beijing authorities also tried to boost the development of new energy vehicles. Last September, Beijing lifted restrictions on Tesla and BMW’s electric models, which were previously not permitted, in a push to encourage the adoption of electric cars.
