Chinese online education platform SmartStudy.com announced in Beijing on Thursday that it established a strategic partnership with Chinese leading internet TV manufacturer, Coocaa Network Technology.
Owned by one of the world’s top-ten color TV brands, Skyworth, Coocaa operates 4,000 chain stores selling TV sets to over 10 million people. It has cooperated with many online education providers including Xingshuai Teach, New Oriental Education and Hujiang.com to create personalized online education services and products.
SmartStudy.com aims to build a smart TV ecosystem consisting of online education content, an online platform and connected household through this cooperation.
“We will work as an education content provider and Coocaa will bring the learning experience to internet TV users,” Wei Xiaoliang, CEO of the platform said.
Wei said that they will record curricula in film studios to create high-quality content.
Founded in 2014 in Beijing, SmartStudy.com focuses on helping Chinese students prepare for English language tests including TOEFL, GRE and IELTS. It has more than four million users to date.
Besides SmartStudy.com, Xiaomi and LeEco have also laid out their plans for their in-home online education strategies to satisfy the needs of parents looking to have their children study at home.
Wei also said that they would develop VR content for online education with Coocaa in the near future.
On Wednesday, online education provider Xingshuai Teach announced it will develop VR content for online education after landing USD 46 million in Series B financing.
In 2014, SmartStudy.com received USD 10.6 million in Series A financing from Chinese internet giant Baidu. The platform has yet to disclose information about the Series B financing it has received.
