Didi announced on Wednesday that its machine learning research institute will now officially be known as Didi Research. He Xiaofei was named as Didi Research’s first president and is also in charge of the company’s big data development.
A renowned AI scientist in machine learning, He once worked at Yahoo! Research Labs after graduating from the University of Chicago with a doctorate in computer science.
“Didi Chuxing is a platform with diversified services that is presenting increasingly higher requirements for data mining, data analyzing, data computing as well as technological innovation,” He said. “The mission of Didi Research lies in offering better transportation solutions using technology.”
He believes that intelligent predictions and dispatching will be a deciding factor in intelligent transportation.
As the “brain” of Didi Chuxing, Didi Research focuses on the R&D of machine learning, computer vision, AI, data mining, optimization theory, and distributed computing, the fruit of which will be applied to Didi’s services before long.
Projects that Didi Research is occupied with include accurate ETA, dynamic pricing, car-pooling, supply and demand forecasting and transport capacity dispatching.
With work from Didi Research, the integration of big data and AI is expected to improve the efficiency and reduce the costs for Didi services, thus benefiting all parties concerned.
Didi Kuaidi announced in March that it has more than 10 million orders placed daily.
