Chinese smartphone maker Nubia unveils Z11 Mini for USD 232

Chinese smartphone maker Nubia Mobile unveiled its new handset, the Z11 Mini, in Beijing on Tuesday. The company aims to make some gains in the small-screen smartphone market with this new product.

“There is still a big market for small-screen smartphones, because they are portable, and can be operated with one hand,” said the general manager of Nubia Mobile, Ni Fei, at the launch party.

The Z11 Mini looks like a typical example of one of those small-screen handsets Ni is talking about. The smartphone has a five-inch 2.5D screen and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor and Adreno 405 GPU. It has a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera and an eight-megapixel front-facing camera, a 2750mAh battery, and a fingerprint scanner on the back. It has a 3GB RAM and 64GBs of expandable internal storage.

The Z11 Mini supports all three major phone networks in China and is dual-SIM capable. This is gradually becoming the standard configuration for newly launched smartphones in China.

Nubia has even added a flash beside the Z11 Mini’s front-facing camera which may help enhance its selfie function. The smartphone is equipped with a brand new NeoVision 5.8 image system, with a number of imaging technologies including 3D digital noise reduction, tone mapping, quick exposure adjustment and anti-shake handheld shooting.

Yet another feature is a user’s ability to log in to two WeChat and QQ accounts on a single Z11 Mini thanks to its clone technology. Nubia claims this is to meet the needs of modern young folks.

Nubia announced it had received RMB 1.9 billion (USD 293 million) in financing from China’s major electronics retailer Suning in December 2015, and Suning projects it will sell ten million Nubia smartphones in three years.

“Nubia’s goal is make at least ten million shipments in 2016,” Ni said in a Tencent Tech report on Wednesday.

The Z11 Mini is offered in three colors at RMB 1,499 (USD 232). It’s currently available for pre-order on Nubia’s official website and China’s major e-commerce platform JD.com. It will go on sale on Nubia’s official website, JD.com and Nubia stores next Monday.
