China’s largest smartphone maker, Huawei, launched its new smartphone, G9 Lite, and MediaPad M2 Lite tablet in Beijing on Wednesday. The company is looking to make some gains in the mid-range smartphone market.
G9 Lite’s specs confirm our earlier guesses. The 5.2-inch phone uses a 13 megapixel rear-facing Sony camera and an eight megapixel front-facing one. It is powered by a Kirin650 processor, has 3GB of RAM and a 3,000mAh battery. The fingerprint scanner is located on its back.
Huawei also introduced a seven-inch MediaPad M2 Lite tablet. The company calls it “a small tablet and big smartphone”. This mixture product has a 13 megapixel rear-facing camera and 4,360mAh battery. It supports dual 4G SIM cards for all three Chinese mobile networks.
The G9 Lite is priced at RMB 1,699 (USD 262) and is available in five colors. A customized-operator version — a version that doesn’t support all three Chinese mobile networks — is also available at RMB 1,599. The MediaPad M2 Lite is priced at RMB 1,599 for the 16GB ROM version and RMB 1,799 for the 32GB ROM one. Huawei is also providing a 10.1-inch version of the tablet.
The G9 Lite can be pre-ordered now on Huawei’s official online store VMALL.com and China’s major e-commerce platforms JD.com and Tmall.com. It will go on sale on May 13.
The MediaPad M2 Lite can be pre-ordered on VMALL.com, JD.com and Tmall.com Thursday. It will go on sale online on May 11.
