Alibaba’s YunOS to enter Indian market

Wang Jian, chairman of the technology committee under Alibaba group, announced at the 2016 Partner Conference in Shenzhen on Monday that Alibaba’s YunOS will enter the Indian market, hoping to reach the goal of 100 million users across the world in 2016

YunOS, a smart operating system launched by Alibaba in July 2011, integrates the technological achievements of the Alibaba Group in many fields including big data, cloud services and smart equipment operating systems, and may be used for smartphones, set-top boxes, internet TV, smart home products, vehicle equipment, wearables and other smart terminals.

Last year, shipments of YunOS phones reached 33 million, a year-over-year increase of 700%. YunOS became the world’s third largest mobile operating system, second only to Android and Apple’s iOS operating system.

According to Wang, YunOS will cooperate with Alibaba’s financial affiliate Ant Financial to provide supply chain financial services for small and medium-sized phone makers in the Indian market.

Last year, India became the world’s second largest smartphone market. Unlike the Chinese domestic market, the Indian market is still undergoing rapid growth, which offers small and medium-sized phone makers a lot of opportunity. On the other hand, India’s banking system is very backward. Many places don’t even have ATMs. In this case, mobile payment becomes one of the best alternatives to bank services. The cooperation between YunOS and Ant Financial will ensure the security of mobile payment from the software’s foundations.

Up until now, YunOS has maintained cooperations with more than ten domestic and foreign smartphone manufacturers, smart wearables manufacturers, TV enterprises and app developers, with an aim of creating the best smart life experience for users. More smart equipment using the YunOS operating system will be launched in the future, and a variety of smart terminals will be provided for users.

The latest YunOS operating system is the YunOS 5 Atom.
