After 3 years, 6 Tesla fans finally get their Model X in China

American electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla delivered six of its Model X to its Chinese customers in Beijing on Thursday. This is the first delivery of Model X vehicles in the Asia Pacific.

Model X was launched in 2013. Its guide price in China is between RMB 961,000 to RMB 1.5 million (USD 145,600 to USD 224,000). The model delivered to the six Beijing customers is the P90D. It can travel 467km per charge.

According to Sina Tech, the six customers who made the pre-orders said that they did not mind the prolonged three-year delivery time, and that they were in full agreement with Tesla on the concept of “new sustainable energy”.

Tesla’s Vice President for the Asia Pacific, Ren Yuxiang, said at the delivery ceremony on Thursday that more Model X vehicles were to be delivered to Shanghai and Guangzhou. Tesla said that it would also speed up the construction of charging stations in China.

There have been numerous media reports recently claiming that Tesla would open its first production base in Shanghai. However, the general manager of Tesla China Zhu Xiaotong refuted this, saying that Tesla had no specific plans to open any production facility in Shanghai.
