Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi launched its new smartphone the Redmi Pro, and its first laptop, the Mi Notebook Air, in Beijing on Wednesday.
“Xiaomi makes high-quality and reliable Redmi smartphones for the common people in China. The Redmi Pro is the flagship smartphone of the Redmi series,” said Lei Jun, founder and of Xiaomi, at the launch party on Wednesday.
The Redmi series smartphones have been seen as Xiaomi’s real strength. Lei said the company has sold 110 million Redmi smartphones since 2013.
The metal-body Redmi Pro has a 5.5-inch OLED display screen. The phone has a dual-camera system for its back facing camera, made up of a 13 megapixel Sony camera and a 5 megapixel Samsung camera. It is powered by a Helio X25 processor and Mali-T880 GPU. It has 4GB RAM and 128GB ROM, a USB-C port and a 4050mAh battery.
The Redmi Pro comes in three versions and three color choices. The 4GB plus 128GB version is priced at RMB 1,999 (USD 299); the 3GB plus 64GB is RMB 1,699; the 3GB plus 32GB is RMB 1,499.
The company also launched its first laptop, the Mi Notebook Air.
The Mi Notebook Air has a 13.3-inch screen and weighs 1.28kg. It is powered by an Intel i5 processor and NVIDIA GeForce 940MX discrete graphics processor. It has 8GB DDR4 RAM and 256GB ROM. And its hard disk is extensible.
The Mi Notebook Air is priced at RMB 4,999. Xiaomi also offers a 12.5-inch version with integrated graphics chips, priced at RMB 3,499.
The Redmi Pro will go on sale on its official website Mi.com, Xiaomi stores and other retailers, including Suning and Gome, on August 6. The Mi Notebook Air will go on sale on Mi.com and Xiaomi stores on August 2. Both products can be pre-ordered on Mi.com as of today.
