Xiaomi’s smart home app Mijia can now control one more appliance: a washing machine.
Chinese startup Xiaoji Technology or MiniJ, a mini home appliance maker, launched its smart washing machine on Tuesday on Xiaomi’s live streaming app, gathering about 10,000 viewers.
It is also announced that the smart washing machine would begin its crowdfunding campaign, starting on Wednesday on Xiaomi’s crowdfunding platform, where it is priced at RMB 1499 (USD 226).
Plans for Xiaomi’s smart home ecosystem began back in 2013. The smartphone maker has since then made a number of smart devices, including smart rice cookers, wristbands and air purifiers.
However, this roller washing machine is “not produced by Xiaomi, or a company in the Xiaomi ecosystem”, Xiaomi’s spokesperson told AllChinaTech.

The small and smart washer – its length, width, and height at 500mm, 415mm, and 630mm respectively – has a capacity of 2.8kg. That is the equivalent of about 5 shirts.
Founded in 2015, the Shanghai-based startup MiniJ says the smart washing machine has three major features:
1.It is quiet. The washer makes little noise when washing and drying clothes. It used a shock absorber from a German manufacturer, which also supplies shock absorbers to Mercedes-Benz and Porsche.
2.It sterilizes. According to the appliance maker, 99.99% of germs can be killed at a temperature of 60℃, and water in the washer can reach 95℃.
3.It is smart. It can be controlled by Xiaomi’s Mijia app, offering 14 washing modes, including sportswear, kids, and high-temperature washing.
