Xiaomi launches the Mi Note 2 smartphone and concept smartphone Xiaomi MIX

Major Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi launched a new flagship smartphone, the Mi Note 2, and concept smartphone the Xiaomi MIX in Beijing on Tuesday.

The Mi Note 2 smartphone uses two pieces of 3D curved-edge glass on its front and back, which was claimed by the company to be as beautiful as a work of art. It has a 5.7-inch soft OLED display screen with a resolution rate at 100,000:1.

The Mi Note 2 smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor. It has 6GB RAM and 128GB ROM, a 4070mAh battery, and it has a 22 megapixel IMX318 back-facing camera, alongside an eight megapixel front-facing one. The Mi Note 2 comes in two colors.

It is priced at RMB 3,299 (USD 486), but the company still offers a 4GB RAM plus 128 GB ROM version for RMB 2,799, and a 6GB RAM plus 128 GB ROM version for international users for RMB 3,499.

The second smartphone it introduced was its concept smartphone, the Xiaomi MIX, designed by famous designer Philippe Starck.

The Xiaomi MIX has a full-ceramic body, and the receiver and range sensor have been redesigned for a better appearance and user experience. The size of MIX’s 6.4-inch display screen is 91.3% of the size of smartphone’s front panel.

The Xiaomi MIX comes in two storage versions: the 4GB RAM plus 128GB ROM version is priced at RMB 3,499; the 6GB plus 256GB version is priced at RMB 3,999.

Xiaomi also launched the official version of its virtual reality (VR) glasses for RMB 199.

The Mi Note 2 and Xiaomi MIX smartphones can be preordered on the company’s online store from Tuesday night onwards. The Mi Note 2 will go on sale on November 1, and the Xiaomi MIX will go on sale on November 4. The public beta testing for Xiaomi’s VR glasses is set for the beginning of November.
