NetEase founder and CEO, William Ding, treated Chinese internet tycoons to a homely meal on Wednesday evening during the Third World Internet Conference (WIC) in Wuzhen, Zhejiang province, NetEase Tech reported.
Attendees included Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang, Baidu president Zhang Yaqin, Xiaomi chairman and CEO Lei Jun, Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing, Sina CEO and president Charles Chao, Sequoia Capital China managing partner Neil Shen, Huawei consumer business group CEO Yu Chengdong, Qihoo 360 chairman and CEO Zhou Hongyi, Sohu founder, chairman and CEO Charles Zhang, and other big names.
This is the third time Ding held a party for internet tycoons at Wuzhen. Born in Zhejiang province, Ding is more like a host, treating his guests who visit Zhejiang for the conference.
The meal was traditional home-style Zhejiang food, with specialties like Shaoxing wine and dishes that included salt-baked potatoes, dried tangerine with roasted beef, and sauteed fresh corn. Ding also prepared “Weiyang pork”, a dish which is apparently only available at the company canteen of NetEase, but will soon meet the public.
According to NetEase Tech, each year the party at Wuzhen gives the internet tycoons a chance to let loose and talk to each other about many topics, not just the internet. Last year Tencent founder Pony Ma showcased his drinking abilities, while Sohu founder Charles Zhang talked about the virtues of staying healthy.
The third Wuzhen Internet Conference is held from November 16th to 18th, 2016. This year, its theme is “Innovation-driven Internet Development for the Benefit of All – Building a Community of Common Future in Cyberspace”. The 16 forums, covering 20 hot internet-related issues, are attended by more than 1,200 guests, including government representatives, technology tycoons, and network professionals from around the world.
