Xiaomi sets price for its thinnest ever Mi TV 4 at USD 508

Xiaomi on Thursday launched its newest flagship television, the Mi TV 4, in Beijing. The cost for the 49-inch television – the smallest version of the Mi TV 4 – is priced at RMB 3,499 (USD 508).

The company first unveiled its Mi TV 4 at CES 2017 earlier this year. With its screen measuring at only 4.9 mm thick, the Mi TV 4 is the slimmest among all Mi TV models – and 30 percent thinner than an iPhone 7. The televisions are fitted with Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) 4K screens by Samsung and LG, and are equipped with Amlogic fifth generation graphic engines.

The Mi TV 4 is powered with an Amlogic T966 processor which enables the television set to play 4K videos at 60 frame per second (FPS).

Xiaomi’s latest television comes in three sizes: 49 inch at RMB 3,499, 55 inch at RMB 3,999, and 65 inch at RMB 9,999.

Both the 49-inch and 55-inch versions of Mi TV 4 are all-in-one and have a 2 GB RAM and 8GB storage. In contrast, the 65-inch version has a separated display and mainframe. It is also larger, with a 3GB RAM and 32 GB storage supporting Dolby Atmos audio technology which offers an immersive 3D sound experience.

This television can be connected with earphones, computer mouses, and game consoles via bluetooth.

In terms of content, Xiaomi partnered with China’s leading video streaming company iQIYI to offer high-definition television programs and videos.

Consumers can start pre-orders for the Mi TV 4 from Thursday in Xiaomi’s online and physical stores, as well as a couple of e-commerce platforms. It will go on sale from June 1.

The company’s television team started demonstrating a 5 mm television screen prototype to Xiaomi’s founder Lei Jun as early as 2012.

“We challenged television manufacturing over and over again, reducing the thickness of Xiaomi’s Mi TV screen from 20 mm to 15.2 mm, and then to 4.9 mm today,” said Wang Chuan, Xiaomi co-founder and head of Xiaomi’s television arm, in a video at the launch event.
