Bangalore-based academic writing SaaS startup Typeset has raised USD 850,000 for a pre-Series A funding round from individual investor Haresh Chawla, a partner at True North (formerly, India Value Fund Advisors).

Typeset was founded in 2015 by Saikiran Chandha and Shanu Kumar.

Typeset is an academic writing SaaS startup. It is an integrated platform that enables authors to focus on writing research, thereby enabling them to be effective in their research communication. Typeset accelerates scientific progress by enabling users to auto-format content, collaborate with co-authors, receive independent feedback from reviewers, and more. The startup claims to have over 12,000 journal and university templates on its platform. It also claims that just a month after launch, it is now being used in 43 countries and has researchers from organizations such as NASA, CERN, ETH Zurich, Stanford,etc.

The startup will use the newly raised funds towards expanding the platform features across the research communication workflow.
