Bangalore-based online talent hiring platform Skillenza (formerly known as Venturesity) has raised USD 722,000 in a seed funding round led by Blume Ventures and Indian Angel Network.

Skillenza was founded in 2014 by Subhendu Panigrahi. Panigrahi, an alumnus of IIT Kharagpur, previously worked as a startup curator at investment group Innovation Angels.

Skillenza offers a talent-centric community in which enterprises looking to hire can test users’ problem-solving abilities and performance in competitive activities like Hackathons, data science challenges, competitive programming, etc. The startup provides enterprises with filtered, assessed, and ranked submissions by its automated evaluation system and leaderboard scores. The startup claims to have over 100 communities with about 350,000 job seekers on its platform. It claims to reduce hiring costs for enterprises by 80% as well as shorten hiring time by 50%. Additionally, through the Skillenza community, enterprises can promote their products to a targeted audience for faster adoption.

Besides enterprises, Skillenza also serves universities. Skillenza allows universities to build an on-platform community, one that can be used to efficiently evaluate students’ proficiencies. In addition, universities can hire certified trainers according to the needs of their student base and upskill them in the necessary areas. Students likewise stand to benefit, as their skills are showcased to hiring partners affiliated with the startup. Skillenza claims to have more than 200 hiring partners including Ola, Amazon, Microsoft, Oracle, etc.

The startup will use the newly raised investment to develop skill-building and talent engagement activities.

Other players in the online-recruiting area in India include Belong.co, Babajob, Aasaanjobs, etc.
