Samsung Electronics acqui-hires chatterbot AI startup Fluenty

AI technology startup, Fleunty, was acqui-hired by Samsung Electronics. It is the first case of Samsung Electronics acquiring a Korean startup. The Fluenty team will now become members of Samsung Electronics. The cost of the acquisition is not open to the public.

Fluenty, an AI natural language technology startup, was established in 2015. Fluenty.ai, the first bot builder in Korea, lets users build a chatterbot. The smart reply functions with messenger were commercialised by the Fluenty app.

Fluenty raised funding from Global Brain and Innobase after they succeeded in landing funding from a technology startup accelerator called Future Play. Naturally, the team drew much attention from Samsung Electronics and its core development team, and was finally selected by a program that supports startups ran by Samsung Electronics’ mobile communications division, Creative Square.
