Alibaba Cloud’s annual flagship The Computing Conference is renamed Apsara Computing Conference from this year.

Alibaba Group CTO and President of Alibaba Cloud Intelligence, Jeff Zhang unveiled an AI chip, Hanguang 800, which specializes in the acceleration of machine learning tasks. It is said that the single-chip computing performance reached 78,563 IPS （Instructions per second ）at peak moment, while the computation efficiency was 500 IPS/W during test. Here’s an example. About one billion product images are uploaded to Alibaba’s e-commerce site Taobao by sellers daily. With the help of Hanguang 800, it now takes the machine five minutes to complete the process of categorizing and matching the images to customers while before it took about one hour to do so.
