Since Apple opened its fifth retail store in Beijing on Saturday, the Chinese capital is now home to the most Apple Stores in Asia. Shanghai and Hong Kong are trailing closely behind, with four stores in each city.

Apple CEO Tim Cook also announced the opening of the company’s fifth retail store at Beijing’s Chaoyang Joy City on Weibo, China’s Twitter-like service. “We’ve come a long way since opening our first store in 2008. Thanks to our amazing store teams and incredible customers for being part of the journey,” Cook said.

Since Apple opened its first retail store in China in the summer of 2008 in Beijing, China now has 27 retail stores nationwide, including Hong Kong. After Shanghai and Hong Kong, Chongqing also houses three retail stores.

Apple Retail China’s Northern District Director Richard Hame told Sohu’s Tech channel that Apple Stores in China are the busiest in the world.
Out of Apple’s USD 51.5 million total revenue reported in October, USD 12.5 billion came from Greater China, a 99% growth compared to last year’s USD 6.292 billion. It was reported that Apple saw 10% growth in Japan and the United States, and only 2% growth in Europe.
