Huawei launches its new Maimang smartphone to lure the younger generation

China’s largest smartphone maker Huawei unveiled the new Maimang5 on Thursday in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou.

The RMB 2,399 (USD 359) device is designed to have a 16 megapixel back-facing camera that can be used to shoot 4k videos. Its eight megapixel front-facing camera is a ”beautifying” one is complimented with apps that can apparently make your selfies prettier. It has a 3,340mAh battery and a fingerprint scanner on the back.

The interactive design of this phone is also designed to be fun. You can get a screenshot with a simple tap of a finger.

Huawei smartphones are stereotypically associated with middle-aged Chinese businessmen. With the new Maimang5, this company is aiming to appeal to the children of its original customer base. generation.

The launch date is also well timed, as students’ summer vacations are ongoing, and the fierce battle for young customers among smartphone makers is intensifying.

Huawei has been trying to establish itself as a well recognised brand in the youth market both in China and abroad. Earlier this month, Huawei filmed a television ad featuring Brooklyn Beckham, son of David Beckham, a deal from which the young man bagged 100,000 pounds.

Customers will be able to buy the new phone from July 21.
