On Thursday, Huawei released its latest model the Huawei Mate 8, a competitive flagship product targeting the high-end market. Huawei hopes to use the Mate 8 to compete with Apple and Samsung in the international high-end smartphone market. Domestically, Huawei replaced Xiaomi as the No.1 smartphone maker in China at the end of October.

“We will complete our goal of selling 100 million smartphones this year. Our market share in the global smartphone market is expected to surpass that of the iPhone in two years,” Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei’s Consumer Business Group, told Tencent news portal in an interview.

According to Gartner’s latest data, the global smartphone shipment has exceeded 353 million by the third quarter of 2015 , a 15.8% increase from the corresponding period in 2014. Samsung took the lead, selling 83.58 million smartphones and taking 23.7% of the market shares, followed by iPhone and Huawei.

Huawei has high hope for the Mate 8 to establish itself in the global high-end phone market. Yu said he hopes the new product will surpass their sales goal from last year.
