SensorTower said its report included downloads for the App Store and Google Play but did not include those from third-party Android stores.
In September, Uber was also crowned the most downloaded ridesharing & taxi app according to SensorTower. During the month, users from Brazil and the United States contributed to most of Uber’s 12.3 million downloads. Grab followed Uber as the second most installed ridesharing & taxi app in September with about 4.3 million installs, which were led by users from Indonesia and Vietnam.
Notably, Hellobike (HelloChuxing in Chinese), China’s leading transportation platform, ranked as the 2nd most downloaded app on the App Store in October, SensorTower reported. Hellobike ranked No.4 on the App Store, while Didi Chuxing was No.2 last month. Chinese industry insiders see a growing demand for micromobility, meaning bike, e-bike, and e-scooter sharing, which offers convenient urban transportation options for riders.
Faster, cheaper, and less constrained than traveling in a car, micromobility options are becoming more and more popular, particularly in cities with severe traffic congestion and limited parking spaces. According to McKinsey, trips of fewer than 8 kilometers, which account for 50% to 60% of the total trips taken by Chinese commuters every day, can be facilitated by micromobility vehicles.
In general, two-wheeled vehicles provide essential travel solutions for many Chinese people. Every day, riders take over one billion commutes on bikes or e-bikes. While 30% of these rides are on bikes, a whopping 70% are on e-bikes.
Founded in 2016, Hellobike had 280 million registered users as of September, and it has deployed its bikes to more than 360 cities and electric bikes to 260 cities across China.
