Lyft CEO John Zimmer said in an interview in Beijing on Wednesday that Didi and Lyft’s new feature to connect users with cabs in the two companies’ respective markets will be launched in two to three months, according to China Daily.

A spokesperson for Didi Kuaidi told AllChinaTech that both companies still need to finalize details.

When it is launched, the new feature will allow Lyft users in the US to hail cabs using Didi’s app while they are in China and Chinese Didi users to hail cabs using Lyft in the US.

Since Didi invested USD 100 million in Lyft in September, Zimmer has made multiple visits to Beijing to discuss collaboration between the two companies.

Didi formed a global alliance with Lyft, Singapore’s GoTaxi, and India’s Ola back in December to extend its reach overseas. This involves creating a new feature on each app that allows its users access to the other companies’ services. Didi president Jean Liu said in an interview last month that Didi wants to make use of the on-the-ground advantage that local apps have in understanding their users’ needs.
